Flesh and Bone - Moira Walley-Beckett - United States
7/10
The new mini-series TV show 'Flesh and Bone' of the cable channel Starz is a good drama show from 'Breaking Bad' producer Moira Walley-Beckett. Since the first episode the viewer find himself watching the struggle of the young woman, Claire, making her way out at one of New York city’s most prestigious dance school. The cast of the show contains real ballet dancers like the well known dancer Irina Dvorovenko former principal ballet dancer with the American Ballet Theatre in New York. The main actress Sarah Hay is a born dancer. She began taking lessons at the age of 8 at the School of American Ballet in New York. In 2010, the young woman took her first steps in cinema by playing one of the dancers corps of the ballet 'Black Swan' with the Oscar winner Natalie Portman, directed by Darren Aronofsky. The series contains 8 episodes of 60 minutes each with a brilliant opening credit entitled Obsession. Series is actually nominated for 2 Golden Globe Categories: Best mini-series or Motion for TV screen and Best Performance by an actress in a Mini-Series Sarah Hay. Personally, I found the motion and the music mesmerizing and hunting, Dave Porter - the composer- made a masterpiece. The viewer will find himself in this show reminded by the beauty and brutality of this world and feel the influence of 'Black Swan' film. Bodies bruised, unbearable jealousies and constant pressure, as is the daily ballet dancers. Whose dreams daily like Claire, being a young dancer Pittsburg freshly landed in New York to join the American Ballet Company. There, the girl becomes the toast of Paul Grayson, angry artistic director, sadistic and manipulative who sees in her a future star, The Star. She discovers that the price to pay to achieve that goal is not only to torture her body over drastic trainings and deprivation. It comes sometimes to sell her soul to the devil.
